good rules to live by:

1. don’t throw out the baby with the bathwater.

2. don’t throw out the mattress with the money in it.

An Israeli woman mistakenly threw out a mattress she said had almost $1 million inside, setting off a frantic search through tons of garbage at a number of landfill sites on Wednesday. The woman told The Associated Press that she bought her elderly mother a new mattress as a surprise present on Monday — and threw out the old one.

The next day, she said, she remembered that she had hidden her life savings inside the old mattress. “I woke up in the morning screaming, when it hit me what happened,” said the Tel Aviv woman, who asked not to be identified.

woman (smiling, with great pride): mom, i know how much your back has been hurting, and how your old mattress needed replacing. well…ta da!

(shows off new mattress with flourish)

mother (not smiling. at all.): what did you do? where’s my mattress? what did you do, you stupid, stupid cow?!?

This would never happen to me since I keep my millions in a bank.

I read a story recently about Best Buy Geek Squad guys finding $10K in a computer someone brought in for repair. The people left their dinero in the computer for safe keeping.

I never understand how people can do these types of things. Sure my mom is getting up there in age, but she better damn well tell me before we throw out the old mattress if she have money in there.

I know some old school people don’t trust banks or whatever but either a) get over it and use a bank or b) use a safe, not a mattress.

moral of the story is the old lady is the american people and the mattress is the federal reserve?
