two words you don’t want to see together if you live around here:
seattle and megaquake.
apparently emerging data suggest that the pacific northwest is at risk for “…a megathrust earthquake of magnitude 9 or more”.
i’m no seismologist, but that sounds bad. it’s several orders of magnitude more severe than a quake i experienced firsthand, the 7.1 loma prieta quake in northern california.
we lived in the marina at the time, where buildings fell down, burned, and were otherwise inhospitable.
all in all, a life-altering experience. and one i’d not like to see writ larger-still in seattle.
somebody needs to do something to ensure this doesn’t happen. with earth-shaking immediacy.
