Is she ready to lead?

The hypocrisy of the GOP, the often premeditated willingness to say up is down and black is white, is simply astounding.
“America’s hottest governor”? Hell, everyone knows it’s frickin’ cold in Alaska! This is outrageous!
Seriously, does the McCain camp really expect Americans to simply forget that they said anything about the dangers of a lack of experience in someone heading to the White House? Should we be concerned that a 72-year old cancer survivor has chosen as his VP candidate a 44-year old who has been governor of the state with the fourth smallest population in the country for less than two years and before that was the mayor of a town of less than 7,000 people?
I can already hear the spin: Sarah Palin embodies the American Dream, rising to national political acclaim from humble beginnings in a small town, helping Hillary with all those cracks in the glass ceiling!
Oy.
Update: Just heard Palin’s “acceptance” speech, which was an athletic Orwellian exercise of massive proportions. With her talk of energy independence and challenging the status quo in D.C. you’d never know she was running with McCain, and she even plagiarized Obama’s speech from last night, using the “now is the time” line several times.

Wow. My brain exploded when I heard this morning. I didn’t know anything about her until I read her bio. She’s anti-choice and a conservative christian. Wanting to teach creationism along with science in school. She wants drilling in ANWAR.
More people live in my city than in her state. The GOP did a great job of portraying the governor of Texas (a mostly powerless role, the legislature is part time) as important executive experience. But at least Texas is second only to California in the size of the state government, economy, population, etc. In other words, had Palin been from a major state I’d feel a little better.
But her bio reads as if it was a character created by the modern GOP. Her oldest son enlisted in the army on 9/11/07! Karl Rove couldn’t dream that big. Her public position on every hot button issue lines up to the republican base.
I can’t fathom how the disenchanted Hillary supporters would vote for McCain because of his choice for VP. I can’t imagine how the mostly pro-choice independent voter would be swayed by this. But what it could do get the conservative christians out to vote, and as we know it just take a few thousand of them in the right states to win.

I’ll give her one thing, she’s a better public speaker than McCain.
