bush’s duck-and-cover-up

in 2003, officials in the bush administration leaked the identity of cia agent valerie plame.
not long after, bush said those responsible would be punished.
yesterday bush said, “pfft, you thought i was serious about that?”
asserting “executive privilege,” bush slammed the door on a congressional investigation of the crime.
why would he do that? perhaps it’s because he’s deeply worried about being outed himself.
it’s already known that karl rove was involved in the plame scandal up to his neck. dick cheney is “under a cloud of suspicion” in the case. bush himself lied from the outset about his interest in pursuing the leak — his hasty commuting of scooter libby’s perjury and obstruction sentence tells us everything we need to know about bush’s true intentions.
in trying to hide behind a specious wall of executive privilege, bush further immerses his administration in a waste lagoon of corruption. but by now it’s obvious no one in the white house cares about such things.
“The claim of executive privilege is ludicrous,” said the committee’s chairman, Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-Beverly Hills).
“This executive privilege claim, and your justification for it, appears to turn the privilege on its head,” said [Senator Patrick] Leahy. “The purpose of executive privilege is to encourage candid advice to the president, not to cover up what the vice president and White House staff say to investigating authorities when that information is requested in the course of congressional oversight.”
when bush was campaigning in 2000, he said he intended to bring morality back to the white house.
now we know he meant the morality of a tinpot dictator, or the small-time grifter surprised to find himself in the middle of a con bigger than he ever imagined.
