“We’re going to continue to do the right thing for the American people by having limited accountability for the president and not a blank check,” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev…

“The only way to end the war is with a firm deadline that is enforceable through funding,” said Dodd, D-Conn…

Schumer, D-N.Y., had told reporters that unless Bush accepted the restrictions, the Defense Department would have to eat into its core budget.

“The days of a free lunch are over,” he said.

Another day, another cave-in by the Democrats.

House to Vote on $70B for Iraq and Afghanistan in Bitter Blow to Anti-War Democrats

The Democratic-controlled House is expected to give President Bush an end-of-session victory in his yearlong battle with anti-war lawmakers over Iraq by approving $70 billion for U.S. military operations there and in Afghanistan.

Question: Can you be an “Anti-War Democrat” and vote for this bill? Reid and Schumer voted yea.

There were only 17 nay votes in total, and 14 of the 17 were…

…Republicans!!!

And what of Senator Clinton who in September said this?

Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton said Sunday she won’t vote for any more money to support the four-year-old war in Iraq without a plan to start bringing U.S. troops home.

“I’ve reached the conclusion that the best way to support our troops is begin bringing them home,” the New York senator and former first lady told CNN’s “Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer.”

“I don’t believe we should continue to vote for funding that has an open-ended commitment, that has no pressure on the Iraqi government to make the tough political decisions they have to make, or which really gives any urgency to the Bush administration’s diplomatic efforts.”

No, she wasn’t one of the three Democrats who voted nay, but she still gets to say that she didn’t vote for it because…she didn’t vote at all. Obama, Dodd, and Biden chose the same route as well, and in Dodd’s case disappointingly so after his admirable leadership efforts to table Telecom immunity.

Shame on my own senators from Washington State, Cantwell and Murray, both Democrats, both voted yea.

One Response to “Pussied out again”

The Democrats have had the majority for a year now. They said they’d get the troops out but there’s more troops there now than last year. They said they were going to restore our civil liberties. They happily signed on for more intrusion into our private lives. They said a lot of things and have done nothing. However unlike the “do nothing Congress” of Truman’s day, the opposition party is giving the president every thing he wants. We’re so screwed.
