It really is incredible how long the Red Scare has remained in the collective American consciousness, almost exactly 14 years after the Soviet Union was officially no more.

I had been a subscriber to Hope Magazine, a wonderful bi-monthly that truly lived up to its name, presenting stories of hope from all over the world. Each issue would bring me stories about courageous people not backing down in the face of overwhelming odds, accomplishing incredible things, helping people who badly need help, and working to save our planet. Sadly, I’d even say ironically, all hope for the magazine was eventually lost due to financial difficulties. After nine years, Hope had to call it quits…or did they?
