31 August 2005I read these two stories before my bicycle ride to work this morning, and kept noticing how petty my annoyances were. “Damnit! Who used up the last of the soy milk!” “Ugh, the cat got hair all over my black pants!” “If only I knew whether or not it was going to rain so that I could decided whether or not to wear my rain gear.”

Just months earlier, I’d started to formulate a theory about KOA, based on the fact that everyone I’ve ever known who “camps” at KOA has been Republican. From my brother-in-law to a co-worker, these are RV-owning folk for whom camping involves TV and U.S. flags. So, my theory, that KOA is actually a secret society, an underground, an infrastructure likely as important to the building of a grassroots right wing groundswell as the nation’s evangelical churches, was in the back of my mind when my wife said, “Look! They have cabins!”
